Mercy Medical Center and Geonetric Launch First Responsive Hospital Website in the Corridor

Mercy Medical Center’s redesigned websites meet the needs of a growing mobile user market.

Cedar Rapids, IA — June 5, 2013 — Throughout the eastern Iowa Corridor, the use of mobile devices is on the rise. That’s why Mercy Medical Center, in cooperation with longtime Web partner Geonetric, has launched two cutting–edge websites. One is dedicated to the hospital and its network of clinics, the other to the popular Especially for You® Race Against Breast Cancer. Both sites are built using responsive design principles, which allow them to respond to an array of devices and screen sizes, and present an optimal experience.

“Our mobile traffic is up more than 200 percent in the last year alone,” says Christy Bock, marketing specialist at Mercy Medical Center. “Mobile users want to be able to access all the content on the site, not just a limited subset. Our new website and the Especially for You microsite deliver an ideal experience for users, regardless of whether they access the site from a desktop, smartphone or tablet.”

Mercy Medical Center’s new responsive website is built on Geonetric’s VitalSite content management system. All the content on the site resizes itself to the user’s device, including the provider, location, and service directories, as well as the calendar and events. The site boasts an action menu — a convenient menu that keeps important links close at hand, regardless of where the site visitor is at on the page. In addition to being responsive, the new site also boasts a sophisticated new design. New content highlights Mercy Medical Center’s 100 Top Hospitals® recognition and promotes access to the organization’s electronic medical record, MyChart.

The new website for the Especially for You Race is focused on providing information to help the community get involved and to promote race sponsors. Also built using responsive design, the site will be a valuable tool for race participants, allowing them to register, share their stories, and access a variety of race information from their smartphones.
