In 2022, Rutland, VT-based Rutland Regional Medical Center decided it was time for a new patient-facing website to replace their current site, which was outdated and failed to effectively showcase the hospital’s most significant selling point: patients didn’t have to leave Vermont to get the best medical care possible. As Rutland’s digital agency partner for 10 years, we were a natural choice to tackle this project head-on.

Starting the sitemap

To begin the discovery process, we conducted a thorough content audit to identify the areas of the site navigation, content, and general information architecture that needed improvement, then created a sitemap that laid out the entire navigation strategy and our recommendations for content architecture.

Elevated visuals

Rutland had recently refreshed its branding, so the first step for our designers was to create a visual design system that complemented that branding and provided an elevated look without being heavy-handed.

A peaceful palette

The overall look of Rutland’s new site communicates organizational excellence with a muted, soothing color palette, clean lines, layered elements and subtle animations.

A resource-full homepage

On Rutland’s homepage, we chose to emphasize its expertise by connecting users to resources like the hospital’s service lines and provider profiles, and introduced a blog called He@lthy Together, which allows Rutland experts to write and curate wellness content.

Provider pillars

Rutland’s provider directory is the cornerstone of the website, so we provided multiple entryways to help users find it, and incorporated an advanced search feature that makes it easy for users to connect with their providers of choice no matter where they are in their health journey

Rutland’s redesign scored a Platinum Award for Website Redesign in the 2023 MarCom Awards.

The new site was also recognized with two 2023 eHealthcare Leadership Awards: a Gold Award for Best Provider Directory and a Silver Award for Best Overall Internet Site.
