Crisis Communications: How an Iowa Hospital Dealt with Historic Flooding
As the flood waters rose and threatened access to Mercy Medical Center, the 445 licensed-bed regional hospital found itself facing a very real crisis. Using every channel available including their Web site, Mercy was able to effectively communicate with their patients, their patients' families, the community, and the media about the state of operations, and eventually about their evacuation efforts.
Melissa Erbes from Mercy recounts her personal and professional experiences as her organization dealt heroically with this disaster. She discusses how the hospital prepared for and implemented their crisis communication plan, as well as shares lessons learned.
